  • Only submission of proposals (completed panels, individual communications, audiovisuals, posters and workshops) submitted through the online application will be considered (CLICK HERE TO ACCESS)
  • It won’t be possible to sign more than two proposals per participant (in any of the supported formats, and either as an author or co-author). These two proposals can never coincide in the same panel.
  • We won’t request a full paper for the work you present at the Conference at the time of registration or later on.
  • Anyone who signs a proposal that has been reviewed and accepted at the Conference, will necessarily have to complete their registration in the 4th AIBR Conference before April 30, 2018. Proposals whose authors have not registered prior to this date will be automatically eliminated from the Conference Program. Completing the registration implies having paid the corresponding fee and provided the documentation (when required) to the Organization.
  • Please take care of style, spelling, writing, technical vocabulary and content in the submitted title and abstract. The information you submit will be the one the Scientific Committee will take into account when evaluating the proposal, as well as the one that will be included in the Conference Program and the Book of Abstracts.

FORMATS

Five formats will be accepted for proposals:

PANELS: Each panel will consist of a minimum of 4 communications and a maximum of 6 (including that of the panel coordinator) on a common theme. In total, the panel will have a maximum duration of two hours: in a panel of six people, for example, fifteen minutes would be available for each speaker, and 30 minutes for general debate.

The person who coordinates the panel (coordinator), will be responsible for registering the basic panel information on the registration form, namely: a title, a summary with a minimum 175 words and a maximum of 250, and 3 to 5 keywords, and the names of all panelists (please do not include all co-authors for each individual communication in the authors section, only the main authors presenting the communication). References to authorship in the fields above will not be accepted. If this occurs, the proposal could be eliminated and there would be no possibility of re-submission.

It will also be necessary to select from a list of theme options (drop-down menu in the registration form), the one that is most akin to the panel presented. In the same way, the language of the proposal will be selected: Spanish, English, Portuguese or multilingual. We encourage coordinators to organize multilingual panels whenever possible so our panels can be more inclusive and participatory for all.

Once the panel is registered and accepted by the scientific committee, each individual panelist (including the coordinator, if s/he is also presenting a communication) must register their individual communication through the registration form of individual proposals. They must indicate, in addition to their personal details, the theme of the panel, and the name of the panel the communication is part of (choose from drop-down menu), and the name of the author (and coauthors if applicable). Please take special care to write and spell all details correctly and in the appropriate place in order to avoid confusion. Note that it could take several hours for the name of the panel to appear visible on the menu after it is registered by the coordinator. Co-authors do not need to register the communication, they will only need to make the payment for their registration if they are attending the conference.

In the event that panels composed of four or five people are presented, the Organization could request the coordinator to include individual communications on the same theme to the panel until completing the limit of six speakers. The inclusion of said communications will only be made when and if the coordinator of the panel agrees on it.

INDIVIDUAL COMMUNICATIONS: The author will submit her or his proposal through the registration form for individual proposals available on the website. The proposal will include a title and a summary with a minimum of 175 words and a maximum of 250, as well as between 3 and 5 keywords. References to authorship in these fields will not be accepted, the proposal being eliminated and the possibility of re-submitting it if this occurs.

Communications will be presented only by one person (either the author or co-author) and in person (virtual presentations will not be accepted under any circumstances). Authors may use PowerPoint or other audiovisual presentation resources for the delivery of their communication.

The Organization of the Conference will distribute accepted individual communications in uncomplete thematic panels, and may request one of the panelists to act as moderator of the panel. This request does not entail any kind of commitment on the part of the people consulted, who may or may not accept to act as coordinators according to their interests.

GENERAL GUIDELINES:

AUTORSHIP:

There is no maximum number of co-authors for each proposal. However, only one person can present the work during the Conference. For the rest of the co-authors to receive their certificate of participation, and appear in the Conference Program and the Book of Abstracts, as well as the ARIES Journal (see below), they must register in the Conference. If the main author cannot attend the Conference to present her or his work, in no case the Organization or another member of the panel or participant can be responsible for presenting her or his communication. Only a co-author enrolled in the Congress may present a paper instead of the main author, as it would be the only person apart from the author capable of discussing the results of the work presented.

Delivery of the certificate of participation in the Conference (whether for individual communications, posters, audiovisuals or workshops) is entirely subject to the author or co-author presenting their proposal in person within the framework of the Conference (virtual presentations will not be accepted under any circumstances).

COORDINATORS:

There will be a single coordinator for each panel. Coordinating a panel involves the following activities: convening 4 to 6 speakers (the coordinator may or may not be one of them, but in no case shall the maximum of six panellists be exceeded); devising a panel that has coherence and functions as a whole within the general theme of the conference; and register it through the online form. Furthermore, the coordinator serves as a bridge between the panelists and the Organization; they ought to inform them of how they should register their communication, and be present during the panel's presentation, giving turns and directing the subsequent debate after individual interventions. Only if these requirements are met will the corresponding certification of panel coordination be obtained.

MODERATORS:

  • Moderating a panel involves briefly introducing panellists, giving turns and controlling presentation times for individual communications, as well as directing the subsequent discussion.
  • For the panels that have been formed by grouping individual communications received, the Congress Organization may propose one of the panelists thereof to act as moderator or moderator.

LANGUAGES:

Proposals may be submitted and presented in any of the official languages of the AIBR Conferences: Spanish, English or Portuguese. Both the panels that are already registered and the thematic panels that are created by the Organization after gathering individual communications, may be formed by communications in any of the three languages. In this way, the AIBR Congress hopes to promote the multilingual dialogue that has been taking place for years in Ibero-American Anthropology.

EVALUATION:

Each proposal will be evaluated (double-blind) by the Scientific Committee. In case of clear disparity in the evaluations, there will be a third blind evaluation made by a different member of the Committee.

THEMES:

The topics in this Congress are diverse. Participants can send both individual communications as well as panel proposals based on the study of all the main branches of the anthropological discipline. In the registration form you will find a wide variety of topics to frame your work. Please, choose the one most akin to your work from the drop-down menu.

PROGRAM:

  • Once the acceptance of a proposal has been communicated by the Scientific Committee, participants must register in the Congress before April 30, 2018. After this deadline, those proposals whose authors have not registered and payed the registration fee will be automatically eliminated from the Programme. The registration will not be completed in any case until all documentation requested by the Organization is delivered and the payment made. In the case of accept panels, keep in mind that these will only continue to be included in the Program if at least 4 communications have completed their registration within the stipulated registration period. Otherwise, the panel will be removed from the Conference, and the approved and registered communications will be distributed in other panels, according to the criteria of the Organization and according to the chosen theme.
